Getting started

How do I book my dog’s first rehabilitation consultation?

Complete our online Therapy Registration Form. Our team will review your details and contact you about the next steps.

What do I need to do before my dog’s first appointment?

We will send you a short questionnaire about your dog’s lifestyle to help us prepare for the initial consultation. Don’t forget to bring some treats to the first appointment!

What happens before and during the Initial Rehabilitation Consultation?

We will send a short questionnaire about your dog’s lifestyle. At the consultation, we will discuss your concerns, review their history, assess your dog and plan what happens next.

Can I stay with my dog during treatment?

We carry out treatments without owners present, as we have found this to be very successful. Dogs often settle more quickly and build connections with us more quickly.

What if my dog is nervous, reactive or dislikes being handled?

Please tell us in advance. We can arrange quieter appointments where possible and adapt handling to your dog. Dogs do not need to meet other dogs during treatment.

Treatment and appointments

What conditions can canine rehabilitation help with?

Rehabilitation can help after surgery or injury and support your dog with conditions such as arthritis, mobility difficulties and some longer-term conditions. We always tailor treatment to your dog. See conditions and treatments.

How long does an appointment last?

Most sessions are 45 minutes. With additional treatments, an hour-long appointment may be required.

How often will my dog need treatment?

This depends on their condition. We often start with more frequent sessions, then space them out or change treatments as your dog progresses.

How many sessions will my dog need?

Every dog is different. We will recommend a plan after assessment and review it regularly as your dog progresses.

Does my dog need to know how to swim?

No, your dog does not need to know how to swim. We will always be present with them in the water, supporting them. We can also offer underwater treadmill and land-based treatment alternatives.

What if my dog does not enjoy the pool or underwater treadmill?

We introduce treatments gradually, working with your dog and at their pace. If water-based treatments are not suitable, we can offer land-based physiotherapy, canine massage and laser therapy.

Will my dog be dry after hydrotherapy?

We towel-dry your dog, but they may still be damp. We recommend bringing a warm coat in colder weather. If you wish, we can book an additional blow-dry service with our grooming team.

What should I bring to the appointment?

Bring your dog on a secure lead with their usual collar or harness, and always bring their favourite treat or toy. Coats and jumpers are very important to help your dog stay warm and comfortable when they leave.

Should I feed or exercise my dog before treatment?

Treatment replaces your dog’s exercise for the day. Please do not feed them within two hours before their appointment. It is also helpful to allow time for toileting.

Will I need to do exercises with my dog at home?

Often, yes. Where appropriate, we may recommend a Home Exercise Programme appointment to give you manageable everyday activities. We will review these as your dog progresses.

What should I do after my dog’s session?

Your dog will need a quieter day and adjustments to their normal exercise, especially during the earlier sessions of rehabilitation. Let us know about any unexpected discomfort or fatigue.
